Some resume advice

Some general feedback on resumes I have been seeing:

  • Send your resume as a pdf so that you can be sure that the formatting looks like you want it to.
  • Name file with your full name, not anything else.
  • Lead with experience, not education, so that you look like you are beyond being a student.

Paid (and unpaid) human rights internship possibility–apply by Thursday!

The Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran has approached Brooklyn College about setting up an internship program beginning this March.  Students would be involved in wide variety of research and administrative tasks working closely with the Rapporteurs’ office: documenting human rights violations; filtering information as it comes it from various sources; managing a Farsi/English website on Iranian issues; and coordinating with US human rights machinery.

If you are interested in this opportunity, send a one-page resume  to Prof. Johnson (Johnson@brooklyn.cuny.edu) by Thursday at 4PM.  (Unless you are over 40 and have 20+ years experience in a related field, the resume should be one-page and no more.)  Please tailor the resume to the internship as it has been described.

Would you take summer classes? Afternoon classes in the fall? Let us know!

I hope your new year is off to a good start. The graduate deputies in the department, along with Paisley Currah, the department chair, are already scheduling summer and fall 2012 classes. We know that some of you have not been able to get into classes you wanted. We want to improve our scheduling, and to do so, we need your input.

PLEASE TAKE THIS 2-MINUTE SURVEY: http://bit.ly/poli-sci-Fall2012

This will help us tremendously in knowing when, and where, you would like your classes to take place.
